Itikaf 2023
Itikaf involves secluding oneself in the masjid during the last 10 days and nights of Ramadan, as was the annual habit of the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace). During this time, attendees devote themselves to worship and learning, seeking forgiveness for past shortcomings and searching for Laylatul Qadr (the Night of Power), which is a night of worship more valuable than a thousand months.
The itikaf begins on the 21st night of Ramadan and continues until its end. The Prophetic sunnah is to remain in the masjid during the entire 10-day period. In order to ensure the best possible experience for our attendees, we limit attendance to 75 individuals. Hence, only those who commit to spending the entire 10 day and night period will be considered for the program. If interest exceeds our maximum, a lottery will be held to select participants with preference given to those who have not attended in the past. Of note, this program is for brothers only. Sisters are encouraged to perform itikaf in a prayer area of their homes – spending as much time as possible engaged in worship, learning, and reflection.
